It's hard to believe we are almost in October. I truly believe that the school year has gone smoothly thus far, and that is a testament to the collaborative efforts among students, parents, and staff. In less than three weeks, our parent-teacher conferences will take place, so please watch for the information on specific dates and times in the coming days.
Looking forward to our community conversation regarding school safety on the evening of Tuesday, October 7, 2025, beginning at 6 pm., inside the District Administration Building. We will share the existing layers of safety currently in place and listen to feedback/ideas from those in attendance who would like to share. More information can be found at this link.
Families recently received their child’s 2024–25 Kansas state assessment results. This year’s assessments included new test items and updated scores, establishing a new baseline for measuring growth in the years ahead and providing valuable insight into student learning across our district.
We are proud to share that, overall, Spring Hill Schools performed very well, especially across our brick-and-mortar buildings, when compared to the state. Highlights include increases in Levels 3 and 4 for English Language Arts and Math, while also seeing decreases in Level 1. Science scores also improved, reflecting the hard work of our students and staff and providing a strong foundation for continued growth.
A more detailed presentation of the district’s assessment scores will be shared at the October 13th Board of Education meeting. We are proud of our students and staff for their efforts and accomplishments!
The annual State of the District Breakfast, hosted by the Spring Hill Education Association, will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Forest Spring Middle School. This is a showcase for those in attendance of the many highlights that have occurred within USD 230 over the past year, as well as what is looming on the horizon. Many of our student groups will be active participants. The Spring Hill Education Foundation (SHEF) is a tremendous resource, providing additional funds and support to enhance student learning, as well as awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to SHHS Graduates.
Tickets for this event can be purchased online at this link, or through the SHEF website. Doors will open at 7:15 a.m., with the program beginning at approximately 7:45 a.m.

Students from Dayton Creek Elementary were recognized at Monday’s Board of Education meeting! Each student was recognized “for demonstrating the Leader in Me Habit, Be Proactive, by taking responsibility, making positive choices, and showing initiative in their learning and actions.” The Leader in Me program is in place throughout our district elementary schools, and we are proud of the many great habits that our students demonstrate on a daily basis here in Spring Hill!
Throughout this week, I have had the privilege of presenting this year's Building Teacher of the Year awards! Nominations for Teacher of the Year are accepted each August and September, with each building naming one recipient. Over the next two weeks, a committee will select from these ten outstanding educators to determine our district's nominees for the Kansas Teacher of the Year award in both elementary and secondary education. Congratulations to all of our recipients, and thank you to all who submitted nominations!
Congratulations to our August Standing Ovation winners: Hanna Kline (Spring Hill Elementary), Maddie Cox (Woodland Spring Middle), and Susan Glenn (Forest Spring Middle)! Also thank you to Queen's Price Chopper in Spring Hill for sponsoring this recognition.
Event calendars for each school are available online at the links below.
