As We Close the First Semester

The first semester of our 2025-2026 school year has come to a close.  Needless to say, it has gone by very quickly, and, as always, many opportunities were presented to see our talented students and staff in action.

#BuildingOpportunity - Groundbreaking Ceremonies!

Spring Hill Schools officially broke ground earlier this month on the new elementary additions made possible through this year’s Building Opportunity Bond.

Timber Sage Elementary, Prairie Creek Elementary, and Spring Hill Elementary each celebrated the start of their expansion projects, joined by student representatives, district leaders, and city officials to commemorate this important milestone.

We are grateful to our voters for their support, which allows us to create the additional space and enhanced learning environments our growing community needs!

199th Street Roadway Improvement Project

Earlier this week, Superior Bowen Construction will began roadway improvements on 199th Street between Ridgeview and Renner. The project is anticipated to be completed by December 2026.

Construction will occur in multiple phases to help minimize traffic impacts. Even so, drivers should expect temporary delays and occasional detours during this time. Please plan accordingly and allow extra travel time if your route includes this portion of 199th Street.

Construction activities will be coordinated with our district staff to help ensure safe and efficient traffic flow during school hours.

For additional information about this project, please visit the City of Spring Hill’s website at springhillks.gov/CIP.

Enrollment Update

Below are our latest enrollment numbers as of December 19, 2025.

(2024-2025 total enrollment was 3,968 students.)

⚠️ KDOT Survey of K-7 Highway

The Kansas Department of Transportation is revising the K-7 Corridor Management Plan for the section of K-7/U.S. 169 highway between the I-35/K-7 interchange in Olathe and 215th Street in Spring Hill.  If you would like to participate in the KDOT survey (or leave a comment) regarding the project please visit their website found at this link.

NOTEWORTHY

Holiday Magic Shows

Over the past week, I had the joy of visiting each of our elementary schools and sharing a fun, interactive magic show with students. Seeing their laughter, curiosity, and excitement was a wonderful reminder of the joy of learning and the special energy our schools bring to life each day.

Closing Thoughts

As the holiday season arrives, I want to take a moment to wish our parents, staff, and patrons a very Merry Christmas and a joyful Holiday season.

Christmas is certainly about opening presents, but it is also about opening our hearts. Every day across Spring Hill Schools, our staff open their hearts and their classrooms to our students. In doing so, they provide a gift far greater than anything wrapped with paper and ribbon: opportunity. Opportunity to learn, to grow, to be challenged, and to succeed. That gift of opportunity is given daily, year-round.

Throughout the first half of this school year, our students' talent and our staff's dedication have been on full display. From classrooms to stages, from fields to hallways, evidence of success is everywhere—and it aligns beautifully with our shared commitment to Excellence Every Day. I am continually inspired by what our students accomplish and by the professionals who guide, support, and believe in them.

As author Maya Angelou once said, “People will never forget how you made them feel.” What I see every day in Spring Hill Schools is students who feel supported, encouraged, and empowered, and that is something truly special.

As you enjoy the upcoming holidays, I hope you find time to rest, reflect, and celebrate with those you love. And may Santa bring you every item on your Christmas list. As for me, my lone request to Santa remains the same each year: no bad weather Monday through Friday during January and February—a Superintendent can dream?????

I told you what I asked Santa for, but in the video below, you’ll hear directly from our students and staff about their holiday wishes and “asks” from Santa. Their voices are a wonderful reminder of the joy and hope that fill our schools.

Merry Christmas, and best wishes for an even better New Year in 2026. Please know how much I truly enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of Spring Hill Schools.
