Good Evening Cavalier Families,
We are wrapping up district assessments and we are incredibly proud of the growth we are seeing across all grade levels. Our students’ perseverance is truly shining!
This week, we loved seeing our Kindergarteners shine in their music program, and our second graders enjoyed a fun and educational field trip to Ernie Miller Nature Center! We also celebrated our final Cavalier Herd Huddles of the school year with an ice cream party as their reward for filling up our light-house with their habit tickets. We were also proud to see our 3rd and 4th grade student leaders present at our recent Site Council Meeting, sharing their learning and highlighting the projects they have worked on this school year. Their confidence, voice, and leadership were a true example of student success in action.

2nd Week of FastBridge & i-Ready Spring Assessments (All Students)
Our Spring district assessments for Reading and Math continue this week. These assessments provide valuable insight into your child’s growth and progress since the fall and winter screenings. We appreciate your partnership in setting students up for success:
- Ensure your child is present and on time each day
- Encourage a good night’s sleep
- Start the day with a positive, calm morning routine
These small steps make a big difference in helping students feel confident, prepared, and ready to achieve. We’ve also included helpful resources for you to review at home to support your child during testing. Thank you so much for your continued support and we are proud to partner with you in helping every Cavalier succeed!

- 8:00 AM: 5th Grade Breakfast & Promotion Ceremony
-
PTO is proudly sponsoring a Chris Cakes breakfast for our 5th grade students as we celebrate this important milestone.
- Parents and guests who would like to participate in the Chris Cakes breakfast will need to complete an RSVP form to ensure we have enough food and supplies for all attendees. 5th grade teachers will be sending out the RSVP form soon. Please stay tuned!
-
9:00 AM: Clap Out with KC Wolf and all DCES students
- K-4 students will line the hallways to cheer them on as they take one final lap through DCES as 5th Graders
-
After the promotion ceremony, parents/families will be dismissed first and asked to line both sides of the hallway near the cafeteria, continuing toward the 3rd grade pod. Once all 5th graders have walked past families and guests along the clap-out route, parents and guests will exit through the front entrance to welcome students as they come outside.
-
Clap-Out Path: 5th Graders will begin at the cafeteria and proceed through the 3rd grade, 4th grade, 2nd grade, and Kindergarten pods before exiting the front doors.
- You are welcome to bring posters and noisemakers to help celebrate! Bubbles are permitted for those lined up outdoors. To help support our custodial and facilities teams, the use of confetti or silly string during the celebration is prohibited.
- KC Wolf will remain with 5th grade families at the front entrance until 10:00 AM, allowing time for photos and celebration.
- Following the clap out, you are welcome to take your child home to continue celebrating this exciting accomplishment together. Please be sure to sign your child out before leaving the school.

Check out our Cavalier feature for this week: |
Empowered To Achieve: Our kindergarteners did an amazing job during their music program! Students showcased their confidence and enthusiasm as they sang, moved, and performed this week. It was also wonderful to see our 5th grade siblings support the program by serving as narrators, helping bring the story to life in such a meaningful way. We are so proud of their hard work and the joy they brought to the stage! |
Empowered To Discover: After wrapping up their CKLA unit, 5th Grade students extended their learning with a hands-on “Owl Pellets” dissection! They explored and uncovered fascinating “bones,” bringing their knowledge to life during this engaging activity with Mrs. Dalton and our 5th Grade teachers.
Empowered To Engage: Our 2nd Grade students had a wonderful time exploring the outdoors during their field trip to the Ernie Miller Nature Center! It was a day full of curiosity, adventure, and connection to nature. Click this link to view more photos.
Empowered To Learn: 1st Grade Library Fun: During their final library checkout, 1st graders enjoyed time to read and celebrate their love of books! As an extension of their CKLA unit, A New Nation: American Independence, students transformed into Founding Fathers and Mothers and even designed and built their own versions of the White House, bringing history to life in a creative and memorable way.
Empowered To Engage: Kindergarten: As part of their Taking Care of the Earth unit, students showed great creativity and care for the environment by reusing milk cartons to create bird feeders. This hands-on project helped them learn about sustainability while supporting local wildlife in a meaningful and fun way.
Empowered To LEAD: Girls on the Run take the Lead: As part of their Community Impact Project, students took time to organize and photograph items from the school’s lost and found. Our hope is that this effort will help more belongings make their way back to their owners and support our school community in a meaningful way. Click this link to view the folder they created.

Thank you so much for your continued support and kindness as we celebrated School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, School Lunch Heroes Day, and Principal Day. We are grateful for the many ways our school community is lifted up each day!
Join us in celebrating our world-class, amazing staff and our school nurse this coming week! Thank you so much!
Lunch Guests: Thank you so much to all the family members who joined us recently for lunch! Your presence made our lunch extra special!
All of our students and staff went outside to decorate the sidewalks where our Girls on the Run participants train, filling the paths with kind and encouraging messages to cheer them on as they prepare for their 5K run on May 9th. It was a joyful way to build school spirit and celebrate kindness!
And the chalk fun isn’t over yet... parents and families will also have a chance to join in! DCES PTO invites you to help us celebrate and support our staff by drawing or writing 90s-themed messages in the front and back entrances of the school. Join us on Sunday, May 3rd from 3-4 PM. We are excited to see our community come together to share appreciation and encouragement for our amazing team!
