April 6-10, 2026

Good Morning Cavalier Families,

It has been a wonderful week at Dayton Creek, filled with moments that reflect the strength of our school community. From a successful Leader in Me Family Night, to a well supported Book Fair, to celebrating our dedicated and hard working paraprofessionals, and engaging in meaningful professional development as a staff, we are grateful for the continued support of our families in making these experiences so positive for our students and staff.

As we look ahead to this coming week, our 3rd to 5th grade students are preparing to showcase their growth and learning through the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP). These untimed, computerized assessments in English language arts, mathematics, and science are aligned to the Kansas Content Standards and provide valuable insight into student progress.

At Dayton Creek, we remain committed to continuous improvement, with a goal each year of increasing the number of students achieving Levels 3 and 4 in both ELA,  Math, & Science  by 5 percent, while decreasing the number of students scoring at Level 1 by 1 percent. (see DCES School Improvement Plan and USD 230 Strategic Plan Dashboard)

As students return from the long weekend prior to testing, we encourage families to support strong routines that set students up for success. Regular attendance, a good night’s sleep, and healthy meals all play an important role in helping students feel confident and ready to do their best. Linked below are resources you can review with your child at home, including the KAP Parent Guide. Thank you so much for your continued partnership in supporting our students. Together, we empower them to lead their learning and strive for excellence every day.

What are the tests like?

KAP tests are taken online through Kite Student Portal. If you would like to see Student Portal in action, Practice Tests are available online. Try Kite Practice Tests together to help your child feel confident and ready. Refer to the Kite Practice Test Guide for information about accessing these Practice Tests. (see page 5 for practice test log ins)
